Who we are

Established in 2025, The Brave Pine Initiative is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families grow strong—physically, cognitively, and emotionally—within the context of their everyday lives.

Rooted in occupational therapy, our work supports children’s development through play, movement, connection, and meaningful participation in home, school, and community routines. We believe children thrive when they feel safe, supported, and valued—and when families are empowered with tools and knowledge to support growth beyond therapy sessions.

Our services are based in natural settings and delivered in a relationship-centered model that honors each child’s unique strengths, needs, and pace of development. We partner closely with caregivers, meeting families where they are and walking alongside them as children build skills, confidence, and resilience.

At The Brave Pine Initiative, we believe that with strong roots, children are able to grow with steady confidence and courage.

Programs offered

A neuromotor diagnosis can impact movement, strength, coordination, cognition, and functional skills due to differences in the brain or nervous system. Examples may include cerebral palsy, brain injury, genetic or developmental motor disorders, and hemiparesis. Programs are individualized to each child’s abilities and goals.

  • Designed for children with global motor involvement affecting multiple areas of the body. This program targets whole-body strength, balance, coordination, endurance, and functional skills such as mobility, self-care, cognition, communication and play. Therapy is customized to support meaningful progress across several developmental domains.

  • Designed for children with hemiparesis or significant weakness on one side of the body. You may choose to participate in Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT).

CIMT focuses on improving use of the affected side of the body through structured, play based practice while using a cast on the unaffected upper extremity. This program encourages functional independence, strength, coordination, and confidence in daily activities.

  • If intensive therapy is not appropriate for your child, we offer community based consulting to support families and children in their everyday environments. This may include home, school, or daycare observations, caregiver education, and collaboration with a child’s existing therapy team. The goal is to provide practical strategies and guidance that can be carried over into daily routines, helping children build functional skills without the structure of an intensive schedule.

*Virtual consultation available. In person consultation must be local to central VA.

Megan Price, OTD, OTR/L

Co-Founder, Lead Occupational Therapist

  • “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
    — Galatians 6:2

Brave Pine was founded out of a deep belief that every child is created with purpose, potential, and the capacity to grow.

After years of working as a pediatric occupational therapist, Megan saw firsthand how powerful intensive therapy can be in helping children build new skills, confidence, and independence. She also saw how difficult it can be for many families to access the time, support, and resources needed for this kind of care.

Through prayer, encouragement from others, and the support of many families and generous donors, the vision for Brave Pine began to take shape. What started as a hope to make meaningful therapy more accessible grew into a community effort — made possible by people who believe in supporting children and their families.

Like the pine tree that inspired the organization’s name, Megan believes children are capable of remarkable growth when given the right support and opportunity.

Brave Pine exists because of a shared belief that when children are supported, encouraged, and given the right opportunities, they can grow in ways that once seemed impossible.

  • Megan is a licensed occupational therapist with experience working with individuals across the lifespan, from young children to adults. Occupational therapy helps people develop or regain the skills needed for everyday life — supporting areas such as motor skills, coordination, independence with daily activities, and participation in meaningful routines.

Megan has focused her clinical work in pediatric settings and has specialized in providing intensive therapy programs designed to help children make meaningful functional gains in a focused period of time. She believes children make their greatest progress when therapy is engaging, purposeful, and when families are active partners in the process.
